Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 May 2026

1. Introduction

EM Channel ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at emchannelapp.org and the EM Channel Android application (the "App"), a manhwa (Korean comics) reader distributed as a sideload APK through our Telegram channel.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to both the website and the App. By using either, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Automatically (website)

When you visit the website, our hosting provider records standard server logs to keep the site secure and to diagnose problems. These logs contain:

  • your IP address (often truncated),
  • browser user-agent string,
  • the referring URL (if any),
  • the request timestamp and HTTP status code.

2.2 Optionally (website analytics)

If we add analytics in the future, it will be a privacy-respecting tool that records only aggregate, anonymous data such as page views and device class. We will update this policy before turning it on.

2.3 From the Android app

The App may process the following on your device:

  • Android Advertising ID — a resettable identifier used by ad networks to deliver and measure ads.
  • Crash reports — anonymous diagnostic data when the App crashes, used to fix bugs.
  • App version, device model, OS version, and language — so we can serve the right content and troubleshoot issues.
  • In-app preferences (bookmarks, reading history, reader settings) — stored locally on your device using shared preferences. We do not sync these to our servers.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or precise location unless you voluntarily contact us for support.

3. Advertising partners

The App is free and is supported by ads delivered through third-party ad networks, including Start.io and similar services. To serve and measure ads, these partners may collect:

  • your Android Advertising ID,
  • your IP address and approximate (country / city level) location,
  • device and connection information,
  • ad interaction data (impressions, clicks, time-on-ad).

This data is processed under each partner's own privacy policy. Please review:

You can opt out of personalized ads at any time from your Android device: Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Settings → Google → Ads), then choose Reset advertising ID or Opt out of Ads Personalization. After opt-out, ads will still be shown but they will not be personalized to you.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The website uses a single first-party cookie (or equivalent local-storage entry) to remember your cookie-consent banner choice. We do not set any third-party tracking cookies on the website, and we do not use cross-site advertising cookies.

The App does not use HTTP cookies. It uses Android shared preferences and local storage to remember your bookmarks, reader settings, and the last chapter you opened.

5. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • operate, maintain, and improve the website and the App,
  • deliver and measure advertisements that keep the App free,
  • diagnose crashes, prevent abuse, and protect our infrastructure,
  • respond to your support requests,
  • comply with applicable laws and lawful requests.

6. Sharing your information

We share information only in these limited situations:

  • Advertising networks (Start.io and similar) — to deliver and measure ads in the App, as described in Section 3.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — including Hetzner (servers) and Cloudflare (DNS, CDN, DDoS protection). They process data on our behalf under their own security commitments.
  • Law enforcement — only when we are legally required by a valid court order or equivalent legal process.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.

7. Data retention

  • Server access logs: kept no longer than 30 days, then automatically deleted.
  • Crash reports: kept up to 90 days for debugging, then deleted or anonymized.
  • Support emails: kept while your support request is open, plus 1 year for follow-up, then deleted.
  • In-app data (bookmarks, settings) lives on your device only. Uninstalling the App removes it.

8. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access the information we hold about you,
  • request correction of inaccurate information,
  • request deletion of your information,
  • object to or restrict certain processing,
  • opt out of personalized advertising (see Section 3).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at waiyanmoehein8@gmail.com . We will respond within 30 days.

EU / EEA / UK residents (GDPR): our legal bases for processing are legitimate interest (security logs, abuse prevention), consent (personalized ads), and legal obligation (responding to lawful requests). You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California residents (CCPA / CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of it. We do not sell personal information. To submit a request, use the contact email above.

9. Children

EM Channel is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. International transfers

Our hosting infrastructure is primarily located in Singapore (Hetzner) and the global Cloudflare edge network. Ad partners may process data in the United States, the European Union, and other jurisdictions. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for cross-border transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. For material changes, we will also announce the update in our Telegram channel. Continued use of the website or App after a change means you accept the revised policy.
