About EM Channel

The manhwa reader built by and for Myanmar's growing manhwa community.

EM Channel is a free Android app for reading manhwa in Burmese. No subscriptions, no paywalls, no signup walls. A vertical-scroll reader optimized for mobile, a Burmese-language interface from the very first screen, and Telegram-based delivery so new chapters reach you the moment they're ready.

Why we built it

Most of the major international manhwa platforms — LINE Webtoon, Kakao Page, Tappytoon, and the rest — carry only a handful of titles translated into Burmese, if any. For Myanmar's fast-growing manhwa fanbase, that has meant relying on volunteer fan translations distributed through scattered Telegram channels: download a PDF here, scroll through a photo album there, miss a chapter because the original post got deleted.

EM Channel was built to bring those community translations into a proper app experience. Bookmarks that remember where you stopped. Push notifications when a new chapter goes live. A reader UI designed for vertical scroll instead of awkward page-by-page swiping. Offline reading for unstable connections. All wrapped in a Burmese-first interface that doesn't ask you to switch your brain into English just to find a story.

We are not trying to replace the licensed platforms — we hope international publishers eventually localize for Myanmar. Until then, EM Channel exists so Burmese readers don't have to choose between giving up on a series or hunting through a dozen Telegram threads.

What makes us different

Three principles that shape every decision we make.

Free, no subscriptions, no paywalls

Every series, every chapter, every feature is free. The app is supported by lightweight ads — small, non-intrusive placements that don't interrupt the reading flow. We don't gate anything behind a "premium" tier and we don't sell coins.

Burmese-first interface

The whole app — menus, buttons, settings, error messages — is in Myanmar Unicode from the ground up, not bolted on as an afterthought. English is available as a fallback for accessibility and for readers more comfortable in it, but the Burmese experience is the primary one.

Distributed via Telegram, not the Play Store

We ship the APK directly through our Telegram channel. That means faster updates (no week-long store reviews), no risk of regional takedowns affecting Myanmar readers, and a direct line between us and the community when something needs fixing.

The team

EM Channel is an independent project led by Wai Yan Moe Hein, based in Myanmar. It started as a personal tool to keep up with translated manhwa across messy Telegram threads, then grew into something usable enough to share with friends, then their friends, then the wider community.

We are deliberately small. There is no investor deck, no growth-hacking team, no "engagement metrics" meeting. Decisions are made by readers, for readers.

We are open to collaborators — translators who want their work to reach more readers, designers who care about Burmese typography, Android developers who want to help on a project that matters. The fastest way to reach us is via our Telegram channel.

Our promise

We take responsibility for the app readers install on their phones. That means a short, concrete set of commitments.

  • Transparent about ads

We work with established ad networks. No autoplay video, no full-screen interstitials between every chapter, no shady redirects. If an ad ever does something it shouldn't, email us and we'll get it pulled.

  • Honest with rights-holders

If you are a creator, publisher, or rights-holder and you'd like a title removed, email waiyanmoehein8@gmail.com with proof of ownership. See our Terms for the full takedown process.

  • No personal-data harvesting

We don't ask for your phone number, your address book, your photos, or your location. The minimum amount of analytics needed to keep the app working — that's it. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

  • No malware, signed APKs

Every release is signed with the same developer key. We publish the SHA-256 fingerprint of each APK in the install guide on our Telegram channel, so readers can verify they downloaded the real thing.

What's next

A rough roadmap — directions we're exploring, not promises with dates.

  • iOS version. Many readers ask about iPhone support. We're scoping what an iOS build would look like.
  • More series. We're steadily expanding the catalog as more translations become available, with a focus on completeness over volume.
  • Better recommendations. Smarter "if you liked this, try this" suggestions tuned for Myanmar reading tastes, not generic global trending.
  • Offline downloads. Pre-download chapters over Wi-Fi for areas with patchy mobile data.
